Ariane Besson lists working hard, making mistakes, reading and travel as her real education. Having combined fashion with theatre and performance art in the 80s, she went on to direct TV commercials internationally.
Bombay Babe, the pop-up retail concept where she sells her limited-edition designs made in India, is Ariane’s latest passion – a culmination of a year spent in the Asian country.
‘Pop ups are an effective way, financially and creatively, to launch a product,’ she explains. ‘It allows me to know my clients and what works for them. Above all, the thought of running a shop day in and day out is not tenable. Pop ups are only the beginning in a large retail shift.’
