Curating a City

Josef joined South Point in 2010 to head up the retail portfolio, transitioning to the property sector after a 25-year career in lifestyle media, as well as successful stints in brand consultancy and advertising. Over the past seven years, Josef has been repositioning Braamfontein’s retail tenant mix. Braamfontein concepts introduced by Josef include the repositioning of De Korte Street and lower Melle Street as branded high streets mixing local and international brands, as well as the conversion of an underutilised parking garage as the new head office for an advertising agency. He also worked on a R4.2-million alleyway upgrade concept, the development of a nine-storey NGO centre, and the establishment of CityBuzz newspaper (Caxton) and www.braamies.co.za, creating inner-city media platforms celebrating Joburg’s urban rebirth.
