Philippa started at Swaziland’s Gone Rural as a design intern after graduating from Central Saint Martins. When the founder passed away, Philippa took on managing the business, and, at the age of 28, officially became Managing Director, exceeding expectations by driving growth globally, while quadrupling the wages of the rural women working in the business, within three years.
Philippa transformed Gone Rural’s leadership structures and ownership, creating an Artisan Board, co-founding its non–profit community development organisation (which supports artisans and their communities through health, education and empowerment programmes), and driving a staff shareholding initiative. Today, Gone Rural is one of the largest women owned/managed companies in Swaziland.
Philippa is currently working as Gone Rural’s creative director while also focusing on her new luxary handbag company, Khokho.
